E-visa for visit the Kaliningrad region, Russia

Starting from July 1, 2019, people from a lot of foreign States may visit Kaliningrad region, Russia, with free e-visa. This visa don’t let you to travel to another territory of Russia. An e-visa (electronic visa) for visit to Kaliningrad region (Russia) is issued without consular fees. The validity period of the electronic visa from the date of issue is 30 days. You can be in Kaliningrad and the region up to 8 days from the date of entry by this visa.

How apply to get an e-visa

Citizens of States from list above can apply at a specialized website of Russian MFA (http://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/index_en.html) for visas in the form of an electronic document (electronic visas, e-visas) to visit the territory of the Kaliningrad Region.

The information for applying is accessed in russian and english only!

An e-visa is issued within 4 calendar days, including week-ends and bank holidays.

There is no need for any invitations or confirmations. You can get and fill in the application form on the website by link above.

Steps for visit Kaliningrad by e-visa

Russian MFA informs about a few simple actions for foreing citizens for travel to Kaliningrad.

  • Fill in an e-visa application form (on-line)
  • Get an e-visa grant notification on the website or by email
  • Print out the notification or download it to your mobile device
  • Show the notification to a transport company employee
  • Show the notification to to a Border Service officer at the border crossing point

Important recommendation for travelers!

All officers and official services in Russia (border service, police, custom and others) prefere the documents on the paper sheats! Some of them can not know yet the new legislation. At this reason you must have a printing out notification your e-visa with you anytime and anywhere. And be sure you are right and your trip is legal!

I recommend you to have the notification of your e-visa in your smartphone and an printing out version too. That simple precaution helps you while you are traveling in Kaliningrad. Try don’t give your smartphone (cellphone) to anybody. Other way, if you take your smartphone out of your hands, you can leave with it somewhere, and you cannot control what is happening to it.
